Hot Topics @ NPE
  • Lunch Money
Please check your child’s lunch account often and send in money to cover meals or pay at MySchoolBucks.com. If you are on free or reduced lunch now but were not covered at the beginning of the year or when your child started school, you must pay the balance for the full-price meals your child ate prior to the approval. Otherwise your child will not be finalized for the year and cannot be promoted to the next grade until the balance is paid. It is very important that students have money in their account. We are quickly approaching the time when there can be no charges. There is a $10.00 charge limit until April 29, and then there is no charging at all. If students do not have money in their accounts after that point, they will not be able to have school meals. You will have to provide meals for your child at that point.
  • PCSing
If you will be PCSing, the first day to do so with finalized records is May 6. In order to be able to do this, we must have a copy of the orders to verify the date. Otherwise, we cannot finalize the records and you will be responsible for registering your child at the new school for the remainder of this school year. In addition, if you PCS before May 6, we cannot finalize records, and you must register at the new school for the remainder of the year. If you PCS after May 6, we still need orders or leave papers or your child will be counted absent, unexcused, which could cause your child to not be promoted until the days are made up.
  • Testing
We have some important Kindergarten testing April 20-22. Then we have DIBELS Testing for Kindergarten and 1st Grade and DSC Testing for LA4 April 25-29. Additional Reading and Math Testing is May 10-12. Please have your child here each day.
  • Field Day Pictures
The deadline to order Field Day Pictures is Tuesday, May 3. NO ORDERS will be accepted after this date.
  • Staff Appreciation Week
May 2-6 is Staff Appreciation Week. A pink letter about all the activities and ways you can volunteer already went home. Please help us out as we honor all the hard work of our staff.
  • Early Registration
Monday, May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 from 8:00-1:00 are our days for LA4 and Kindergarten registration for new students for next year. A flyer with specific details has already gone home once and will be sent again the week of April 25. You may also look on the left-hand side of this page or contact the office for more information.
  • NUT Pass Day
NUT Pass Day for those who earn it Thursday, May 5.
  • $1.00 Blue Jeans on Fridays
Students are able to wear jeans each Friday (or the last school day of the week) for $1.00. Each child that wears jeans needs to bring the dollar with them on that particular day. On those days students may wear their NPE spirit shirt or a uniform shirt. If students do not wear jeans on Fridays, they must wear their khaki bottoms. The jeans must be free of holes, frays, and other extra designs.
  • Uniforms
All shorts/skirts/dresses worn to school, whether it’s on jean day or on a regular uniform day, are to be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. We have had some issues with bottoms being too short. Thanks for your help with this.
  • Morning Time
School begins each day at 7:50 AM. Students who come in after 8:00 AM must be signed in by a parent, and the student is marked tardy. Please remind yourself of the policy in the Handbook in the front of your child’s journal. Students who exceed the allowable number of tardies/early-outs in a six weeks will be required to make up the time after school.
  • Morning Drop-Off
Students are required to be dropped off in the Parent Drop-Off Line and walk themselves to their classes each day. No parent can park and walk a child across. If we have any parents that walk to school from Dogwood, you will have to drop your child off at the end of the sidewalk and allow your child to walk the rest of the way by himself or herself. If you have something to drop off in the office or you need to speak to someone in the office, you will have to first let you child off at the sidewalk and then wait until 8:00 to come in.

Here are a few suggestions to help speed things up:

-First of all, if you live on a street where we have bus transportation, you may want to consider allowing your child to ride the bus. They get here in a very timely manner, and only our students ride our buses. There are no older students on our buses.
-If you are going to continue to utilize Parent Drop-Off, please have your child ready to hop out of the car as soon as the duty personnel open the door. All children need to have their bookbag on their back and should have any other needed items in their hands. Students should already be unbuckled. They also need to have already said their goodbyes and had their goodbye hugs and kisses
-Once the line moves, we need all vehicles to continue moving.

  • Parent Pick-Up
Parent Pick-Up is from 2:40 to 2:55. Please make sure you are on time. If you would prefer not to have to wait in the line on a daily basis, we suggest you allow your child to ride the bus to and from school, if you live on one of our designated streets. Just let the teacher know of the change in writing.
  • Spirit Shirts
Students who have a spirit shirt may wear them each Friday with khaki bottoms or $1.00 jeans. We are using Spirit and Pride for our shirts this year. You can order on-line or from the order form. Students can also wear spirit shirts from last year.
  • Visitors at Lunch
If you are coming to have lunch with your child, please send a note to the teacher. If you are purchasing school lunch, it is $3.90. All visitors are required to sign in at the office and wait in the office or in the cafeteria for their child. Once lunch is over, all visitors must report directly back to the office to sign out.

  • Eureka Math Information
If you visit our Useful Links page, you will see some links for Eureka Math help. In this time of curriculum transition, we know that parents have many questions about how to best help their children. These links will give you information and activities that will allow you to do just that. You can also link to the Vernon Parish website, under Links for Parents, where you will find even more information and help under the Parents tab. Continue to visit our Useful Links page and the Vernon Parish site as more information and links will be added frequently. Also be looking for Math Help newsletters to be sent home periodically as the students progress through the different lessons.
