Hot Topics @ NPE
  • $1.00 Blue Jeans on Fridays
Students are able to wear jeans each Friday (or the last school day of the week) for $1.00. Each child that wears jeans needs to bring the dollar with them on that particular day. On those days students may wear their NPE spirit shirt or a uniform shirt. If students do not wear jeans on Fridays, they must wear their khaki bottoms. The jeans must be free of holes and other extra designs. Please help support our school in raising funds to purchase additional materials for the students.
  • Lunch Money
Please help us with lunch money. Many students qualified for free/reduced lunch after school started, but any lunch money charged up to that point must be paid. Also, students are not suppose to charge over $20.00, but we have quite a few that over the limit. Please check your child's lunch balance and help us get these outstanding bills paid. Also, please make sure that your child has money in his/her account to purchase school meals. After three notifications of overdue money, we have to turn that information over to the Child Welfare and Attendance Director at the School Board Office.
  • Mardi Gras Parade
Friday, February 13, is our Mardi Gras Parade. If your child makes a float for the parade, it must be something he or she can pull or carry – no motorized vehicles or riding toys, bikes, etc. The floats need to be dropped off no later than 8:30 AM. Remember that no younger siblings can go down to the classrooms. If you come after 8:00, you will need to drop off the float in the office and we will get it down to the classroom. The floats must be picked up by 1:00 from the MP Room. You are more than welcome to attend the parade, but be aware that the entire front drive will be blocked off at 9:00 AM. If we must have the parade inside due to weather, there will only be a couple of designated areas for parents to stand in the front hallway and in the front of the building. The rest of the inside parade route will be dedicated for the students.
  • Marble Slab
The orders and money for Marble Slab are due back no later than Wednesday, January 28. The ice cream will be delivered Friday, February 6.
  • Book Fair
Our Spring Book Fair is Monday, February 2 until Friday, February 13. The Online Book Fair is Thursday, January 29 until Wednesday, February 18.
  • Mardi Gras Pictures
Mardi Gras Pictures are Thursday, February 5. They are $2.00 each. We are collecting money now through Tuesday, February 3. These will also be in uniform.
  • DENTAC
LA4, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students have a DENTAC check on Thursday, February 5. Permission forms were sent home last week. Students cannot be checked unless the form has been signed and returned.
  • Class Pictures
Class Pictures are Wednesday, February 4. These are in uniform. The pictures are from $14 to $20, depending on what you choose to order, and the order envelope with the payment must be sent back by 8:00 AM that morning in order for a picture to be ordered for your child.
  • Family Math Nights
We have Family Math Nights coming up. First Grade Night is Tuesday, February 10, and Kindergarten Night is Thursday, February 12. Both nights are 4:30-6:00.
  • Valentine's Day
For Valentine's Day we do not have parties - just the exchange. Please look for information from your child's teacher about how this will take place in the individual classrooms. Because of the safety issue on the bus and in parent pick-up, the following items cannot be delivered to school for students for Valentine’s Day: flowers, balloons, and anything in a glass container. If you do bring/send something for your child, it needs to be something small that they can carry or put in their backpack at the end of the day. Anything delivered to the office will be held in the office until the end of the day, and then students will be called up to come get it right before going home. The best option is to present your gift to your child either before or after school on Friday or wait until Saturday, which is actually Valentine's Day.
  • February Holidays
No school Monday, February 16 - Wednesday, February 18 in observance of Presidents' Day and Mardi Gras. Students return to school on Thursday, February 19.
  • Cooler Weather
With cooler weather here, please remember that if a student wears more than one shirt, at least one of them is to have a collar, and any shirts worn under uniform shirts must be in uniform colors. All socks and tights must be plain white or black.
  • Eureka Math Information
If you visit our Useful Links page, you will see some links for Eureka Math help. In this time of curriculum transition, we know that parents have many questions about how to best help their children. These links will give you information and activities that will allow you to do just that. You can also link to the Vernon Parish website, under Links for Parents, where you will find even more information and help under the Parents tab. Continue to visit our Useful Links page and the Vernon Parish site as more information and links will be added frequently. Also be looking for Math Help newsletters to be sent home periodically as the students progress through the different lessons.
  • Parent Pick-Up
Parent Pick-Up is from 2:40 to 2:55. Please be on time to pick up your child. If you would prefer not to have to wait in the line on a daily basis, we suggest you allow your child to ride the bus to and from school, if you live on one of our designated streets. Just let the teacher know of the change in writing.
