Hot Topics @ NPE
  • Summer Hours
We are open during the summer. Our summer hours are Monday-Thursday from 8:00 to 1:00. We are closed on Fridays. We will also be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day and on Monday, July 6 in honor of Independence Day. Registration opens back up on Monday, June 8. We do registrations each day from 9:00-1:00.
  • Orientation for the 15/16 School Year
North Polk Elementary will host its annual Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Following are the times:
    LA4 - 10:00 AM
    Kindergarten - 1:00 PM
    First Grade - 4:00 PM

You will receive a letter the last week of July letting you know the name of your child' teacher.

Because this meeting is designed for adults, we ask that you utilize the CDC/SAS or another form of child care for your child(ren), including siblings, if at all possible. If you need to bring your child(ren) with you, please have children two and under in a stroller or carrier so that they will be safe. Also, all children must remain seated and with an adult during all parts of the Orientation. Thank you for your help in this matter so that we can best meet with you for this one hour.

  • First Day of School
The first day of school for students for the 15/16 school year is Tuesday, August 11, 2015. However, our Head Start, LA4, and Kindergarten students come on a staggered schedule to allow the teachers to work with a small group each day for the first few days of school. You will receive a letter from the school the last week of July that tells you the name of your child's teacher and your child's staggered day(s). Your child must attend on their assigned day(s) or he/she will be counted absent for all the staggered days for beginning of school (2 for Head Start, 3 for kindergarten and 5 for LA4). This is because students receive credit for all the staggered days by coming on their assigned day(s). You also cannot come on a different day if you miss your child's assigned time. The classes are divided out evenly and changes cannot be made. Thank you for your assistance with this process. We know it can be confusing at times!
  • 2015-16 Supply Lists
  • $1.00 Blue Jeans on Fridays
Students are able to wear jeans each Friday (or the last school day of the week) for $1.00, beginning Friday, August 21, 2015. Each child that wears jeans needs to bring the dollar with them on that particular day. On those days students may wear their NPE spirit shirt or a uniform shirt. If students do not wear jeans on Fridays, they must wear their khaki bottoms. The jeans must be free of holes, frays, and other extra designs. Please help support our school in raising funds to purchase additional materials for the students.
  • Eureka Math Information
If you visit our Useful Links page, you will see some links for Eureka Math help. In this time of curriculum transition, we know that parents have many questions about how to best help their children. These links will give you information and activities that will allow you to do just that. You can also link to the Vernon Parish website, under Links for Parents, where you will find even more information and help under the Parents tab. Continue to visit our Useful Links page and the Vernon Parish site as more information and links will be added frequently. Also be looking for Math Help newsletters to be sent home periodically as the students progress through the different lessons.
  • Parent Pick-Up
Parent Pick-Up is from 2:40 to 2:55. Please be on time to pick up your child. If you would prefer not to have to wait in the line on a daily basis, we suggest you allow your child to ride the bus to and from school, if you live on one of our designated streets. Just let the teacher know of the change in writing.
