Hot Topics @ NPE
  • Marble Slab
All orders and money are due no later than Wednesday, February 10. The ice cream will be delivered on Friday, February 19.
  • Class Picture Money
We will accept Class Picture money through Wednesday, February 10. After that, you will have to order on-line.
  • Lunch Money
Please check your child’s lunch account often and send in money to cover meals or pay at MySchoolBucks.com. If you are on free or reduced lunch now but were not covered at the beginning of the year or when your child started school, you must pay the balance for the full-price meals your child ate prior to the approval. It is very important that students have money in their account. We are quickly approaching the time when there can be no charges. There is no charging over $10.00 until April 29, and then there is no charging at all.
  • $1.00 Blue Jeans on Fridays
Students are able to wear jeans each Friday (or the last school day of the week) for $1.00. Each child that wears jeans needs to bring the dollar with them on that particular day. On those days students may wear their NPE spirit shirt or a uniform shirt. If students do not wear jeans on Fridays, they must wear their khaki bottoms. The jeans must be free of holes, frays, and other extra designs. Please help support our school in raising funds to purchase additional materials for the students.
  • Valentine's Day
For Valentine’s Day we do not have parties – just the exchange. Please look for information from your child’s teacher about how this will take place in the individual classrooms. Because of the safety issue on the bus and in parent pick-up, the following items cannot be delivered to school for students for Valentine’s Day: flowers, balloons, and anything in a glass container. If you do bring/send something for your child, it needs to be something small that they can carry or put in their backpack at the end of the day. Anything delivered to the office will be held in the office until the end of the day, and then students will be called up to come get it right before going home. The best option is to present your gift to your child at home.
  • Domino's Fundraiser
We are doing a Domino's Pizza Fundraiser by selling Slice the Price cards. The information went home Monday, February 8. The sale ends on Monday, February 22. If your child sells 12 cards, he/she will receive a FREE Domino’s Slice the Price Card!
  • Spring Book Fair
Our Spring Book Fair continues through Tuesday, February 16. The Online Book Fair will be open until February 17.
  • Book Swap
Friday, February 12 is our Book Swap. Please send in a new or gently used book or books for this. However, even if a child does not donate any books, he or she still gets to choose a book to keep.
  • End of 4th Six Weeks
The end of the 4th Six Weeks is Friday, February 12.
  • Presidents' Day
There is no school on Monday, February 15 in observance of Presidents’ Day.
  • Parent Help Night
Our next Parent Help Night is Tuesday, February 16 at 5:00 PM. We hope to see many of you here.
  • NUT Pass Day

NUT Pass Day, for those students who earn it, is Thursday, February 18.

  • St. Jude
We will kick off our St. Jude’s activities on Friday, February 26. More info to come soon.
  • Uniforms
All shorts/skirts/dresses worn to school, whether it’s on jean day or on a regular uniform day, are to be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. We have had some issues with bottoms being too short. Thanks for your help with this.
  • Morning Time
School begins each day at 7:50 AM. Students who come in after 8:00 AM must be signed in by a parent, and the student is marked tardy. Please remind yourself of the policy in the Handbook in the front of your child’s journal. Students who exceed the allowable number of tardies/early-outs in a six weeks will be required to make up the time after school.
  • Morning Drop-Off
Students are required to be dropped off in the Parent Drop-Off Line and walk themselves to their classes each day. No parent can park and walk a child across. If we have any parents that walk to school from Dogwood, you will have to drop your child off at the end of the sidewalk and allow your child to walk the rest of the way by himself or herself. If you have something to drop off in the office or you need to speak to someone in the office, you will have to first let you child off at the sidewalk and then wait until 8:00 to come in.

Here are a few suggestions to help speed things up:

-First of all, if you live on a street where we have bus transportation, you may want to consider allowing your child to ride the bus. They get here in a very timely manner, and only our students ride our buses. There are no older students on our buses.
-If you are going to continue to utilize Parent Drop-Off, please have your child ready to hop out of the car as soon as the duty personnel open the door. All children need to have their bookbag on their back and should have any other needed items in their hands. Students should already be unbuckled. They also need to have already said their goodbyes and had their goodbye hugs and kisses
-Once the line moves, we need all vehicles to continue moving.

  • Parent Pick-Up
Parent Pick-Up is from 2:40 to 2:55. Please make sure you are on time. If you would prefer not to have to wait in the line on a daily basis, we suggest you allow your child to ride the bus to and from school, if you live on one of our designated streets. Just let the teacher know of the change in writing.
  • Spirit Shirts
Students who have a spirit shirt may wear them each Friday with khaki bottoms or $1.00 jeans. We are using Spirit and Pride for our shirts this year. You can order on-line or from the order form. Students can also wear spirit shirts from last year.
  • Visitors at Lunch
If you are coming to have lunch with your child, please send a note to the teacher. If you are purchasing school lunch, it is $3.90. All visitors are required to sign in at the office and wait in the office or in the cafeteria for their child. Once lunch is over, all visitors must report directly back to the office to sign out.

  • Eureka Math Information
If you visit our Useful Links page, you will see some links for Eureka Math help. In this time of curriculum transition, we know that parents have many questions about how to best help their children. These links will give you information and activities that will allow you to do just that. You can also link to the Vernon Parish website, under Links for Parents, where you will find even more information and help under the Parents tab. Continue to visit our Useful Links page and the Vernon Parish site as more information and links will be added frequently. Also be looking for Math Help newsletters to be sent home periodically as the students progress through the different lessons.
