Hot Topics @ NPE
  • Morning Time
School begins each day at 7:50 AM. Students who come in after 8:00 AM must be signed in by a parent, and the student is marked tardy. Our tardy/early-out policy begins Monday, August 24. Please remind yourself of this policy in the Handbook in the front of your child’s journal. Students who exceed the allowable number of tardies/early-outs in a six weeks will be required to make up the time after school.
  • Morning Drop-Off
Students are required to be dropped off in the Parent Drop-Off Line and walk themselves to their classes each day. No parent can park and walk a child across. If we have any parents that walk to school from Dogwood, you will have to drop your child off at the end of the sidewalk and allow your child to walk the rest of the way by himself or herself. If you have something to drop off in the office or you need to speak to someone in the office, you will have to first let you child off at the sidewalk and then wait until 8:00 to come in.

Here are a few suggestions to help speed things up:

-First of all, if you live on a street where we have bus transportation, you may want to consider allowing your child to ride the bus. They get here in a very timely manner, and only our students ride our buses. There are no older students on our buses.
-If you are going to continue to utilize Parent Drop-Off, please have your child ready to hop out of the car as soon as the duty personnel open the door. All children need to have their bookbag on their back and should have any other needed items in their hands. Students should already be unbuckled. They also need to have already said their goodbyes and had their goodbye hugs and kisses
-Once the line moves, we need all vehicles to continue moving.

  • Parent Pick-Up
Parent Pick-Up is from 2:40 to 2:55. Please make sure you are on time. If you would prefer not to have to wait in the line on a daily basis, we suggest you allow your child to ride the bus to and from school, if you live on one of our designated streets. Just let the teacher know of the change in writing.
  • Half-Day of School and Parent-Teacher Conferences
We do have Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday, September 4, from 12:30-3:30. The students will only have a half-day of school from 8:00-11:30. Parent Pick-Up will begin at 11:30 and buses will begin loading at 11:35. Please make arrangements to be at the bus stop for your child or to be here in Parent Pick-Up at the appropriate time.Students will be served meals that day, so plan accordingly. LA4 students will only have one meal from 9:20-9:50. No student can be checked out after 11:00 AM, so if you need to sign out your child on Friday, you need to be at the school before 11:00 AM.
  • Volunteer Training
We have a Volunteer Training Night on Tuesday, September 1, at 5:30 in the Multipurpose Room. If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please attend this meeting. Parent Volunteers will be able to begin helping at the school on Wednesday, September 2. Volunteer hours are 9:00-2:00.
  • Spirit Shirts
Students who have a spirit shirt may wear them each Friday with khaki bottoms or $1.00 jeans. We are using Spirit and Pride for our shirts this year. You can order on-line or from the order form. Students can also wear spirit shirts from last year.
  • $1.00 Blue Jeans on Fridays
Students are able to wear jeans each Friday (or the last school day of the week) for $1.00. Each child that wears jeans needs to bring the dollar with them on that particular day. On those days students may wear their NPE spirit shirt or a uniform shirt. If students do not wear jeans on Fridays, they must wear their khaki bottoms. The jeans must be free of holes, frays, and other extra designs. Please help support our school in raising funds to purchase additional materials for the students.
  • NUT Pass Day
Students who have exhibited good conduct in the first three weeks of school will earn a NUT (non-uniform t-shirt) Pass to use on Thursday, September 3. Students who receive a pass may wear a shirt of their choosing with their khaki bottoms on the 3rd.  The shirt must still meet VPSB dress code requirements.
  • Visitors at Lunch
Lunch visitation begins on Wednesday, September 2. If you are coming to have lunch with your child, please send a note to the teacher. If you are purchasing school lunch, it is $3.90. All visitors are required to sign in at the office and wait in the office or in the cafeteria for their child. Once lunch is over, all visitors must report directly back to the office to sign out.
